Bangladesh captain Litton Das believes his side is “almost ready” for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after a spirited turnaround sealed a 2–1 series win against Ireland in Chattogram.
After dropping the opening game by 39 runs, the Tigers hit back with authority, clinching back-to-back wins to close the series. A relieved but upbeat Litton credited the players for responding under pressure and showing maturity at the right time.
“We conducted a lot of experiments throughout the series,” Litton said after the final T20I. “Some decisions were risky — like not giving Fizz [Mustafizur Rahman] the last over today. We wanted to see how Saifuddin handles the pressure after missing two games. I think we tested almost everything we needed to. This bunch of players is almost ready for the next World Cup.”
Bangladesh addressed two long-standing concerns: handling crunch moments and fielding discipline. Litton admitted the team struggled in the first match but praised the side’s resurgence.
“We couldn’t overcome the pressure early in the series, but we fought back strongly. There were a lot of positives. We’re not known as a great fielding unit, yet the boys took some brilliant catches. After playing so many T20Is this year, the group has become far more mature.”
He credited the coaching staff for maintaining clarity and continuity since the Asia Cup, emphasising that players have been given consistent roles ahead of the mega event.
“Our team has been ready since the Asia Cup. We’ve used a fixed group of players and want them to perform well in the BPL so they can repeat that for the national team. My only concern is injuries. We just pray everyone stays fit for the next two months.”
Bangladesh in Group C for T20 World Cup 2026
The Tigers have been slotted into Group C alongside England, West Indies, Nepal and Italy. They open their World Cup campaign on February 7 — day one of the tournament — against West Indies at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
With confidence rising and combinations settling, Litton believes Bangladesh are pacing their preparations perfectly as the countdown to the T20 World Cup intensifies.
