Scotland Announce Squad

Richie Berrington to lead 15-member squad; Tom Bruce included as Scotland eye impact in India

Scotland have officially announced their 15-member squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, with experienced all-rounder Richie Berrington set to captain the side at the marquee event. The squad announcement comes as Scotland prepare for their seventh appearance at the T20 World Cup, having featured in the tournament since its inaugural edition in 2007.

The announcement also marks a new chapter for Scottish cricket, with Owen Dawkins taking charge as head coach ahead of the global tournament, which will be played in India.

New faces and international experience

One of the standout inclusions is Zainullah Ihsan, who has earned his maiden international call-up after recently qualifying to represent Scotland. The Afghan-born fast bowler has impressed at youth and ‘A’ team level and is expected to add genuine pace to Scotland’s bowling attack.

Another major boost comes in the form of Tom Bruce, the former New Zealand international who has switched allegiance to Scotland. The 34-year-old batter brings valuable top-level experience, having played 17 T20 Internationals for the Black Caps, and is expected to strengthen Scotland’s middle order.

Balanced squad for sub-continent conditions

Speaking on the squad selection, Steve Snell, Cricket Scotland’s Head of Performance, expressed confidence in the group’s ability to adapt to Indian conditions.

“We feel it’s a well-balanced squad that caters for a lot of different scenarios and challenges the team will face in India,” Snell said.
“Zainullah Ihsan has shown an exciting range of skills and bowled at genuine pace whenever he’s played at youth level or for the ‘A’ squad. We’re delighted for him.”

Snell also praised Oliver Davidson, highlighting the fast bowler’s recent improvements and work ethic, calling his selection “thoroughly deserved”.
