Zimbabwe have added experience to their backroom staff ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, appointing former West Indies fast bowler Courtney Walsh as a bowling consultant.
Walsh has already begun working with the squad as Zimbabwe continue their preparations for the tournament, which will be held in India and Sri Lanka from 7 February to 8 March.
The 61-year-old brings significant experience of playing and working in subcontinent conditions — a factor likely to be key during the World Cup.
Zimbabwe are placed in Group B alongside Australia, Sri Lanka, Ireland and Oman, and face a demanding group stage.
Zimbabwe Cricket managing director Givemore Makoni said the appointment was made with the World Cup firmly in mind.
“Courtney Walsh brings a wealth of experience, particularly in fast bowling,” Makoni said.
“As we prepare for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, we felt it was important to have someone who understands international cricket at the highest level.”
Zimbabwe are returning to the Men’s T20 World Cup after missing the 2024 edition, having failed to qualify through the Africa Qualifier in 2023.
They secured qualification this time via the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2025, finishing ahead of several regional rivals to book their place at the tournament.
Zimbabwe will begin their campaign against Oman at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo on 9 February, before facing Australia at the R. Premadasa Stadium on 13 February.
